- Will I get hurt?
Not too often! Expect to get knocked, bumped and kicked. Injuries are no worse than for any other similarly physical sport (such as football, field hockey, rugby, skateboarding). I've played twice a week for 18 years and aside from occiasonal minor bruises, scratches and scrapes I've only had two injuries.
- How do you breathe?
There is no SCUBA gear involved. You breathe on the surface through a snorkel and then you take a breath before you dive under. When you resurface you clear the snorkel with a sharp breath and then breath as normal. Easy.
- How long do I have to hold my breath for?
How long is a peice of string? It's like asking how far does a golfer have to hit a ball? The answer is as long as its needed or for as long as you are capable. Some players have huge breath holding abilites, but take longr to recover after a big breath hold, while others have very short stints underwater but are able to go up and down very fast indeed. Generally players will be up and down frequently expending huge amounts of energy ... this massively reduces your breath holding capabilities or 'bottom time'. Players will typically average between 5 and 30 seconds on the bottom and experienced players around 50% of a match or training session underwater.
