Only one person per BOA registered club is allowed to vote at the AGM. Any BOA member may represent any BOA club with their permission. voting club representatives must make themselves known to the Chairman at the start of the meeting.

BOA/BSAC

The BOA has attempted to gain Recognised Governing Body (RNGB) status in our own right but has failed in the past.

An RNGB is important for overall control and accreditation and for moving the sport forward, any grants applications will be asked who is our RNGB.

The British Sub Aqua Club is still listed as our Recognised National Governing Body and we have been in discussions lately about forging closer relations with them.

BSAC can offer us many things:

CRB checks can be done with BSAC as the umbrella body and they can advise on sensitive welfare issues, BSAC have a large membership so bulk buying will offer reduced insurance premiums, BSAC has a permanent office employing 23 people at Ellesmere Port who could cover our administrative needs, BSAC have accredited training courses and as our RNGB could accredit our own courses, they use printing services which due to bulk buying would reduce our printing costs, We would have a regular column in their magazine SCUBA, BSAC offer a discount scheme to their members giving discounts on holidays and hotel bookings and cashback on shopping at big name stores, BSAC have their own shop distribution centre at their offices which we may be able to use to store and post our shop items, they could cover our membership database and collect membership fees and they have a Treasurer who could do our banking work.

The BOA currently rely on volunteers who may or may not have enough time to do their jobs, joining BSAC will give us the sustainability we desperately need.

BSAC have no interest in the running or rules of underwater hockey, that will be left entirely with the BOA Committee.

However this does come at a price and the BSAC proposal is that the BOA become a branch of BSAC paying £9 per member to give us each BSAC snorkelling membership.

The AGM will discuss if this is the right way forward for us and if we decide it is do we need to increase BOA membership fees to cover the cost, or just pay out of current fees.

Membership to foreign Players

Republic of Eire clubs have asked to play in our tournaments as they only have a couple of clubs so no national league of their own. If we agree we would need to look at our team registration rules to allow non UK players or teams to enter.

Team Registration Document

At the National Qualifiers there was some question over whether a player was eligible to play in the tournament. We must look at our team registration rules to ensure they cover our requirements especially in light of the proposal above.

Election of Committee Officers

All Committee posts are open for election at the AGM and we have candidates standing for some posts.

We do not currently have any-one standing for the post of Shop Manager and the post of Treasurer.

Treasurer and Shop Manager are vitally important posts within the BOA so I urge you to please consider volunteering.

If you are interested in becoming involved with the BOA Committee but do not wish to take on an official role we can elect other Committee members without portfolio.

If you wish to stand for any Committee post then let me know at the start of the meeting or before if possible.

National Squads Meeting

There is no fixed start time for the National Squads meeting as it will be held immediately after the AGM. If you wish to attend the national squads meeting then I reccommend that you also attend the AGM.

The following positions will be elected at the meeting:

If any of the membership wants to put there name forward for one of the above positions can you please email on squadsmgr (at) gbuwh dot co dot uk by 2000 hours on 17th June 2012 to advise me of the following:

a) What position you are applying for

b) Will you be at the Squads Meeting

It is assumed that all current holders of the positions are re-applying for their positions so do not need to email.

If you apply and are not going to be able to attend the meeting it will be in your interest to pre-prepare some words that will be read on your behalf to enable the eligible voting people at the meeting to cast their vote.

There will be no proxy voting.

Those eligible to vote at a National Squads Meeting are all of the BOA Committee, all current National Squads Coaches, Managers and Team Captains.

Procedure for the National Squads meeting can be found in the BOA documents.
