Octopush E-News Bulletin 218
Octo-news
At the AGM in July we agreed that players and teams from the Republic of Ireland may join the British Octopush Association so they may play in BOA tournaments.
That means that we had to modify the Team Registration document.
Changes also include new rules about allowing non UK players to play for UK teams:
4.2 Any member with a British passport is eligible to play in UK competitions.
Any member who does not hold a UK passport must be ordinarily resident in the UK or Republic of Ireland, or have resided in the UK or Republic of Ireland for a minimum of 30 days immediately prior to participation in a BOA competition. eg: if the competition started on 31st May then they must have been residing in the UK or Republic of Ireland from 1st May or longer.
A member who does not hold a UK passport who has resided in the UK or Republic of Ireland continuously for at least 3 months after 1st September of any year will be eligible to enter all BOA competitions up to 31st August of the following year even if they were out of the UK or Republic of Ireland immediately prior to a competition.
4.3 National Preliminaries, Qualifiers and Finals are considered part of the same competition chain. If a player is eligible for the first tournament of any competition chain they are considered eligible for the subsequent tournaments in that chain should the team qualify.
BOA members are reminded that referee courses are provided as a membership benefit.
It is in a players interest to learn the rules and signals so you can be a better player even if you do not progress to be a referee.
Often players are asked to referee after their game so the more people who are capable the better our games can be.
All you need to do is get a group of about 12 people together, arrange a room with PC projection facilities and liaise with referee@gbuwh(dot co dot uk) to arrange a referee tutor. Expenses will be paid by the BOA.
There are several Level 1 referees who are ready to progress to level 2.
If you feel you are ready for a level 2 course, or you plan to referee at national or international tournaments then send your name to referee@gbuwh(dot co dot uk).
Once we know who will be attending we can arrange a date and venue.
Our new Insurance policy will now cover players from the Republic of Ireland in the same way it cover players in the UK.
There is also a personal injury insurance but don't get excited - you need to die or have bits of your body ripped off before you can claim on it.
We do not have insurance for minor injuries such as broken teeth or loss of equipment.
To all Club officials
Please be aware that the membership renewals for the period 1st Oct 2012 to 30th Sept 2013 are due before the 30th of Sept 2012
A late payment penalty of £50 (per club submission) will be automatically incurred, for submissions (and payments) recieved after 30th Sep 2012.
We are aware that student clubs have difficulty counting heads before term time so if you need more time, or if any-one requires assistance
Please email the BOA membership Secretary, membership@gbuwh.co.uk.
Thanking you in advance
Phil Thompson
BOA membership secretary
Does any-one have a lap top they no longer use which you are willing to donate to the BOA.
We are looking for 3 lap tops to use for competition display to improve the whole competition experience,
If you can donate contact the Competitions Manager on comp(at)gbuwh.co.uk.
