Octopush E-News Bulletin 226

National Squads Update (June 2013)

During the past year over 150 players have been training and trialling for the chance to represent Great Britain at the upcoming World Championships. The 18th World Championships are being held in Eger, Hungary with the tournament starting on Thursday 22nd August with the opening ceremony, the round robins starting on Saturday 24th August with the tournament being brought to a finish by the final, medals and closing ceremonies on Saturday 31st August before Team GB departs Eger for home on 1st September.
The past few months have seen those 150+ players gradually reduced to the 84 players that will now represent Team GB in seven different categories.
Ladies Elite will be looking to retain their World Championship from Coimbra in 2011.
Men's Elite will be looking to better their 5th place finish from Coimbra.
Ladies Masters are having their first tournament since the 2006 World Championships that were held in Sheffield.
Men's Masters will be looking to go at least one stage and one medal further than their 3rd place in Dordrecht in 2011.
Ladies U23 will be looking to better their 4th place finish from Dordrecht.
Men's U23 will be looking to better their 5th place finish from Dordrecht.
Men's U19 will be looking to better their 6th place finish from Dordrecht.
Before announcing which players have made Team GB I would like to say thanks to the BOA Committee and Membership for their support this year in the backing for the players that have trialled for the squads. I hope this will result in the best results collectively that Team GB has ever achieved.
To give you an idea of how far and wide talent has been sourced for these World Championships the players who have been selected are being announced in a different way to the usual.
Congratulations to the players who have made Team GB who now have 77 days till they enter the pool to start their round robin games.
