Underwater Hockey Rules of Play (Bulletin 221)

Octopush E-News Bulletin 222

Underwater Hockey Rules of Play

In the past CMAS failed to update their rules of play, so at the BOA we wrote our own version incorporating all of the ammendments agreed at international tournaments and we have been playing to those rules for several years.
CMAS has now updated its rules of play to incorporate all ammendments in version 10.0 which are very similar to the BOA rules of play.
Therefore the BOA Committee have agreed to adopt and play to CMAS rules of play at BOA competitions.
For you as a player or Referee this will make very little difference to the rules you have been playing to.
The Captain's Brief should be read to find any local changes to the CMAS rules applicable for that tournament.
You are reminded that there is no poolside Captain's brief at BOA tournaments. You are expected to read and understand all relevant information before the competition and to present your team at the poolside 5 minutes before your game for a kit inspection.
You are also reminded that safety kit is compulsory at all BOA tournaments including:
Headgear or cap with firm ear protectors clearly numbered between 1 and 15,
Mask with dual lenses with safety glass or other safety material fitted,
Non metal pliable snorkel with no sharp edges or ends,
Internal or external mouthguard,
Hand protection for the playing hand. The colour must strongly contrast with the colour of the players stick, the colour of the puck and the referees glove. (Players gloves must not be orange or yellow, black glove with black stick is not allowed, white glove with white stick is not allowed).
Fins must be made of non-dangerous material.
Fibre fins must be covered with a rubberised film to prevent a sharp or jagged edge if broken during play.
All edge rubbers must be in place and secure.
If any Referee believes any part of a players kit may be dangerous or may harm someone that player will not be allowed to play with that kit.
